TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT AND COMPENSATION. Substitute teachers are approved by the School Board for one academic year. Substitute teacher applicants are screened. The applicants with the most educational training are selected. Temporary service teachers are at-will employees and have no property rights in their employment which may be terminated at any time by either the employee or the employer without notice. All selected applicants must attend the required substitute teacher orientation training prior to being placed on the substitute teacher roster for board approval.
Substitutes cannot work dual positions due to wage and hour rules.
All substitute teachers shall be at least 21 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists with the implementation of the daily program under the direction of the teacher
Supervising the classroom when the teacher is out of the room
Maintains confidentiality about children, their families, and other employees outside the school
Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers
Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips
Distribute teaching materials such as textbooks, workbooks, papers, and pencils to students
Distribute tests and homework assignments, and collect them when they are completed
Enforce administration policies and rules governing students
Organize and label materials, and display students’ work in a manner appropriate for their eye levels and perceptual skills
Organize and supervise games and other recreational activities to promote physical, mental, and social development
Performs any other duties as outlined by the Principal in coordination with the assigned teacher
