QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid Mississippi teaching certificate with endorsement in the applicable content area(s)
  2. A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a field of education or appropriate to certification
  3. Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

JOB GOALS: To provide students with the library materials and services most appropriate and most meaningful in their growth and development as individuals. To provide support to teachers as they effectively implement the evidence-based instructional curriculum driven by the MS College-and-Career-Readiness Standards in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and achieve their academic potential

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:        Such duties as may be assigned, including but not limited to, the following:

  1. Meets all professional conduct standards as set by MS Educator Code of Ethics Standards of Conduct
  2. Provides reading enrichment activities for students
  3. Develops short and long-range goals for the media center program
  4. Develops and implements procedures for the media center
  5. Maintains the media center to be an attractive, functional, and orderly environment with an atmosphere conducive to learning
  6. Manages the library budget including special funds allocated to the library program
  7. Provides a balanced, up-to-date collection of both print and non-print materials including technology to support the school’s instructional program
  8. Classifies, catalogues, processes, and organizes materials for circulation
  9. Establishes circulation procedures for easy access to the media center collection and maintains records on the use of its resources
  10. Accounts for materials through a yearly inventory and removes inappropriate, worn-out, or outdated items
  11. Provides orientation and instruction for students and faculty in the use of the library media center’s materials and equipment
  12. Assists students and teachers in locating information and resources for research
  13. Encourages reading by maintaining an awareness of students’ reading interests and by providing guidance in the selection of appropriate materials
  14. Works cooperatively with teachers to integrate research, information retrieval skills, and library appreciation into the curriculum
  15. Promotes a positive relationship with students, faculty, administration, and community
  16. Determines instructional needs within the library media program by consulting with teachers and administrators
  17. Publicizes library media programs and services
  18. Distributes written communications to inform teachers of new materials in the media center
  19. Develops and communicates goals, objectives, and budgetary needs for the library media program to administrators
  20. Stays current with new library media trends
  21. Participates in professional organizations and activities relating to library media and technology
  22. Provides access to professional materials/information for the faculty and staff
  23. Collaborates with other faculty and staff, parents, administrators, and district support staff
  24. Participates in professional growth activities monitored through the MS Professional Growth System
  25. Reports on time to duty posts and performs duty responsibilities as assigned by school administration
  26. Follows all board policies and procedures
  27. Maintains regular attendance and is punctual
  28. Promotes the district’s vision, mission, and goals
  29. Performs any other duties as assigned by school administration
