QUALIFICATIONS:      

  1. Valid Mississippi teaching certificate with endorsement 959
  2. Valid Mississippi Cosmetology Instructor License issued by the State Board of Cosmetology
  3. A minimum of a two-year college degree (associate degree) or higher from an accredited institution of higher education
  4. Applicants with an associate degree must have at least two years of verifiable occupational experience in the past ten years. Applicants with a bachelor or higher degree must have at least one year of verifiable occupational experience in the past ten years. An educator with a standard five year license may use experience outside of the ten year timeframe. Experience must be appropriate to the subject to be taught.

  5. Applicant must validate technology competency by obtaining the established minimal score or higher on assessment approved by the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) (after hire)

JOB GOALS: To effectively plan, organize, and implement an evidence-based instructional curriculum driven by the MS College-and-Career-Readiness Standards in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and achieve their academic potential         

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:        Such duties as may be assigned, including but not limited to, the following:

  1. Meets all professional conduct standards as set by MS Educator Code of Ethics Standards of Conduct
  2. Instructs all students assigned to the class roster according to school board policy and state/federal law
  3. Structures daily instructional time and orchestrates lessons that lead students to skill mastery
  4. Develops lessons that demonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogy
  5. Develops lessons that reflect the diversity of students’ backgrounds, cultures, skills, learning levels, language, interests, and special needs
  6. Selects goals aligned to the curriculum and that promote higher-order thinking
  7. Collects and organizes data to inform instructional decisions
  8. Maintains a classroom atmosphere that promotes learning and allows various opportunities for students to improve their cognitive capabilities
  9. Implements useful diagnostic and progress monitoring measures that reveal how each student is progressing and focus instructional decisions
  10. Selects and uses effective instructional methods and learning materials for individualized instruction
  11. Actively engages students in the learning process
  12. Uses questioning and discussion techniques to promote higher order thinking skills
  13. Brings multiple perspectives to the delivery of content
  14. Communicates clearly and effectively
  15. Manages classroom space and resources effectively for student learning
  16. Monitors student access and usage of the Internet
  17. Establishes and maintains a culture of learning to high expectations
  18. Manages student behavior to provide productive learning opportunities for all students
  19. Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students
  20. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  21. Follows the District Instructional Management Plan including the Multi-Tiered System of Supports
  22. Collaborates with other faculty and staff, parents, the building principal, and district support staff
  23. Participates in professional growth activities monitored through the MS Professional Growth System
  24. Reports on time to duty posts and performs duty responsibilities as assigned by school administration
  25. Follows all board policies and procedures
  26. Maintains regular attendance and is punctual
  27. Promotes the district’s vision, mission, and goals
  28. Performs any other duties as assigned by the Director of Brookhaven Technical Center

JOB EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel
