QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid Mississippi teaching certificate with endorsement in administration or supervision
  2. A minimum of five years prior job experience in teaching, counseling and/or administration
  3. Prior job experience in coaching preferred
  4. Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

JOB GOALS: To provide each enrolled student of junior high or secondary school age an opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity that will foster physical skills of worth and competence, a knowledge and understanding of the pleasures of sport, and the principles of fair play.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Such duties as may be assigned, including but not limited to, the following:

  1. Meets all professional conduct standards as set by MS Educator Code of Ethics Standards of Conduct
  2. Organizes and administers the overall program of extracurricular athletics, both intramural and interscholastic, for the district.
  3. Provides leadership in the selection, assignment, and evaluation of athletic coaches and staff members.
  4. Fosters good school-community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic events.
  5. Assumes responsibility for the organization and schedule all interscholastic athletic events.
  6. Hires officials, team physicians, and policeman as required, and assumes general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games.
  7. Arranges transportation for athletic contest participants.
  8. Arranges provision for meals for athletes and coaches when opponent is 60 miles or more from a district boundary line.
  9. Develops and places into operation appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities.
  10. Verifies each athlete’s eligibility according to established physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport.
  11. Prepares and administers the athletic program budget.
  12. Requisitions program supplies and equipment.
  13. Supervises all ticket sales and fund-raising events of the athletic program, and assumes responsibility for proper handling of funds.
  14. Arranges all details of visiting teams’ needs, including, lodging, meals, towels, gymnasium services, and field assistance, as appropriate.
  15. Decides for school use of playing fields and facilities.
  16. Arranges field and gym practices schedules.
  17. Provides for the physical examination of all athletes prior to the beginning of each season.
  18. Administer the insurance program covering school athletes, and assumes responsibility for all processing of reports and claims.
  19. Keeps records of the results of all junior and senior high school athletic contests, and maintains a record file of all award winners, stating the date and type of award, including athletic scholarships.
  20. Directs an in-school, extracurricular program designed to foster support for athletic teams and school spirit among nonparticipants.
  21. Plans and supervises an annual recognition program for school athletes.
  22. Submits items for Board review and attends Board meetings when appropriate.

  24. Maintains regular attendance and is punctual
  25. Promotes the district’s vision, mission, and goals
  26. Performs any other duties as outlined by the Superintendent
